916 Malayalam Film Review Rating :Disappointing Reports

916 Malayalam Movie

Here is the Malayalam movie review of the Malayalam film 916 directed by M.Mohanan with Anoop Menon and Asif Ali in the lead. The review ratings and reports are giving the film average reports with special mention that M.Mohanan has been disappointing in his latest Malayalam movie venture.

Here are some of the reports of the film from facebook.

‎'916' begins on a note of confusion. As the film progresses, the sense of confusion increases leaving the viewer disoriented. At the end of two hours, director M.Mohanan's new film into the same genre of films such as Innathe Chinthavishayam,Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, which are purportedly about kids but it's the same melodramatic mush being dished out in a new wrapper. But the story has no freshness to it and the emotional scenes, save a few, lack soul.

A family of two members - Dr. Harikrishnan (Anoop Menon) and his daughter Meera(Malavika). Dr. Harikrishnan is an altruist who considers his profession as a means to serve the society. Meera is a Plus two student, they are living a happy life.Once Prasanth (Asif Ali) enters their lives as a youngster who falls in love with Meera . The rest of the events form the crux of the story. This is what the film is essentially all about, and how far does it succeed in driving home the point?

As we break fo
r intermission, we sincerely feel that another love story is in the cards,But things start going boring mainly in the second half. The twist after Interval which is thoroughly unconvincing.916 has been presented honestly for sure, but suffers due to the lack of a credible storyline and also with its highly conventional narrative style.

While the actors, one cannot help fault the lazy characterisation. Most of the actors in the film are veterans, be it Mukesh, Nandu,Balachandran Chullikaadu ,Devan,KPAC Lalita(only seen her the very first scene, where she goes to rest of the film?). And no wonder that this is a cakewalk for all of them, as the characters never ever throw any fresh challenges on them. Debutant Malavika is fine at times.Monica has limited scenes to play and she done it convincingly. If the director had given any thought to Anoop Menon's character, it's not reflected on screen. He tries his best but it's unfair to call him a bad actor when he hasn't been given any material to work with. Asif Ali appears only in limited scenes.Thank God!

One would have thought the director and scriptwriter (M.Mohanan) had enough material to build a tight script. But no they have liberally lifted sequences from other popular kiddie flicks of the last decade. Many scenes defy logic and bring in several doubts in the minds of the hapless viewers.M.Jayachandran’s Music is fine and Faisal Ali’s visuals are just about OK.

916 is a major let down, in terms of the story, the script as well as the execution. Given the kind of predictable fare that it is, it is likely to have a terrible time at the box office.I'm giving 1.5/5 for '916'.If you’ve been pining for an old-fashioned tear-jerker, this one's for you.

916 Movie Review Rating - 1.5/5
