Malayalam films had a glorious year in 2012.
More films were released than the previous year and also more films survived
the box office.The so called new generation films increased the flow of new actors to the Malayalam film industry and the dependence on Mohanlal and
Mammootty was reduced to some extent ( though the 2 actors still rule the
Malayalam box office ).

by Anwar Rasheed and written by Anjali Menon, Ustad hotel is the one
film that got got the star value for Dulquar salman. Ustad hotel saw a
commendable performance from Thilakan too. Nithya Menon was the heroine and the
song “appangalembaadum “ was a run away hit among the younger audience.
Aashique Abu did his job well again in
2012. After the success of salt n pepper in 2011, a lot was expected of him and
he did well telling a different story that took many of the family audiences by
surprise. 22 Female Kottayam or 22 FK had Fahad Fazil doing his job as the protagonist long side Rima Kallingal who had one of the best roles of 2012 in
the film.
Directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and
starring Nivin Pauly along with Isha Talwar, the film was tailor made for the
youth. The film was about the love story of a Hindu boy with a Muslim girl which got the audience go crazy due to
the superb direction from Vineeth Sreenivasan.
Lal Jose returned to his former self after
the disaster of Spanish Masala to create one of the best films of 2012 in diamond necklace. Diamond necklace was the
story of a young doctor from Kerala living in Dubai enjoying his life spending
more than what he earns. The film exposed the new generation lifestyle of the
youngsters who fall prey toi the loan sharks of finance companies and credit
cards.
Mohanlal had a good year in 2012 with his films Grandmaster, spirit all
getting the hit tag . But it was Run Babby Run or RBR that made the most of the
box office power of the veteran actor. And no one knows the box office power of
Mohanlal more than Joshiy himself.

joined hands after the success of "Beautiful" to create another beautiful
film Trivandrum Lodge.
Lal Jose created another box office hit
with a good film after diamond necklace.
Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil was the story of the life of a young doctor who changed
from a insincere youth to a responsible doctor .
Directed by sugeeth, the film Ordinary was a simple film told in the
simplest way which made the film extra ordinary. Kunjacko Boban was the male lead and the film saw one of the rare dialects in
Malayalam ( Palakakd slang ) being popularized by Biju Menon.
Directed by Arunkumar , the film was a
rubics cube to many. The film was not a typical hero centric film while the
film had multiple heroes and multiple
heroines.
Mayamohini was a pure Dileep venture which
had him playing the lead as a female throughout the film. The story directed by
Jose Thomas was a box office hit among the family audiences who loved to see
how Dileep passed as female throughout the film.
Mohanlal had a better year in 2012 and
virtually most of his films were hit except for Casanovva and Karmayodha.
Mammootty had a forgettable year in 2012 with his films falling apart one by one
right from the start of 2012. But he regained his former self with a
commendable performance in Baavootiyude Naamathil which survived the box
office. Dileep created history with his role as Mayamohini in
Mayamohni. He had a good year too with his films my boss and Mr.Maruakan getting
the hit tag along the line. Prithviraj ventured into Bollywood with the film
Aiyaa which unfortunately did not do well at the box office. But in Malayalam
he did his part well with the success of Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil. Jayaram had a
hard time getting his socks together in 2012 .Jayasuriya and Anoop Menon continied their journey with a rare venture in Trivandrum lodge which got rave reviews from the box office.Many criticizing the film as not suitable for the family audiences, while many praising the makers for their guts to do the film. Kunjacko Boban was still his former self getting success without any proclamations. His film Ordinary was one of the best hits of 2012.
One of the best thing that happened about
the 2012 was that a crop of new actors
had arisen out of nowhere to take Malayalam films to the next level.
Year of 2012 can be said to be the year of
Dulquar Salman and Fahad Fazil. 2012 saw the rise of Dulquar Salman from an unknown young man to be a talented young actor. Fahad fazil proved
to the critics that he had changed a lot from his first film which was done some
years back. Unni Mukundan emerged as one of the most popular action hero of
Malayalam with Mallu Singh and Asif Ali continued with his self less roles
leaving the star tag. He was associated with a lot of films in 2012 as a guest
role or as a negative character though
he had the chances to stick to the hero roles. Nivin pauly got a memorable hit for
his career with Thattathin Maraythu which definitely got the younger audience

insights into he life of a Muslim girl in an orthodox family.

out the film and as a film that gave too much importance to sex. There were
critics who referred the film as a story of sex maniacs.

7.Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil
Prithviraj played the protagonist while
Samvritha Sunil, Rima Kallingal and Remya Nambheeshan played their parts well.
Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil did well at the box office while a strike of theaters stopped the film from becoming a box office super hit.
The songs of the film which had Prithviraj
and Narain doing the combo college life raised expectations of another

the female leads and the film succeeded purely due to the Dileep factor .
