Frustration

There are days when we wake up with a frown and that too for no rhyme or reason. Since the day has begun on a bad note, we are in no mood to work and this leads to unhappiness all around. Sometimes it so happens that we are simply unsatisfied with our work with no solution in sight. When we are not able to achieve the desired goals, there is a tendency to get frustrated and which is perfectly alright given the situation. It seems like a dead end and nothing can go right for us…. this miserable feeling is frustration. Frustration has become a common element in today’s competitive world, where one is always trying to outdo the other and in the process get frustrated. Success cannot be achieved in a day, just like ‘Rome was not built in a day’; hence there’s failure at every step which if not properly tackled leads to frustration.
Frustration can stem out from a number of causes, failure being the dominating one.
Frustration is basically an emotional response to resistance. It is characterized by anger or disappointment that arises due to non fulfillment of one’s will. The greater the obstruction and  greater will be the level of frustration, but at the same time is the only way to get rid of frustration. While coping with frustration one may engage in a passive – aggressive behavior; this makes it difficult to identify the cause of frustration.
Frustration not controlled in the beginning gradually leads to depression.
There are 8 tested ways to deal with frustration.
1.    Ask yourself, what is still working in this situation,
2.    Keep a record of accomplishments
3.    Focus on what you actually want,
4.    Remove the element of ‘noise” and simplify,
5.    Multiple Solutions,
6.    Take Action,
7.    Visualize  positive situation to this outcome
8.    Stay positive

A frustrated individual will see problems everywhere and solutions nowhere. Such an individual is not capable of visualizing anything positive in the situations. Such person should be taught these 8 steps to deal with frustration and if required should also be provided with proper counseling.
There is an age old saying – ‘all problems ought to have a solution’. So, when there is a problem on hand, there should be an attempt to look beyond the same and think out of the box.
If the above mentioned 8 steps are followed, we will soon realize that there are fewer problems than what was initially thought, rather seemed; hence the frustration level also comes down. Then all of a sudden opportunities seem to be more than what was assumed initially.
