Advantages of On the Job Training


Training is an inherent aptitude in humans. Everyone is training or getting trained, at any given time, without even realizing it but during formal trainings on a job or school, problems often arise.
On the job training (OJT) often involves two people, supervisor or manager and his employee; hence, a very effective method of training. On the job training is a planned and organized method and also considered one of the best training methods. The training is usually conducted the employee’s workplace but benefits both the parties. It pays right on the spot, you train them and they benefit your firm by working for you.
On the job trainings are used to widen an employee’s skill set. The new skills gained mutually benefit both the parties as they also increase the productivity of organization. On the job trainings increase professionalism and morale of the team or person on training.
On the job training has a number of benefits. One of them is developing the training exercises yourself, as an employer or supervisor knows well what the needs are. It is also cost effective because paying them for training is expensive as well as has other draw backs. In personal supervision employer or manager can check if the trainee is catching on finely. It can also give employer a chance to provide higher quality training to his employee than any other training available in market.
On the job training will strengthen the employer-employee relationship or a group’s relationship with its manager. On the job training is also more useful because the employee learns to work in organization’s environment. It can entertain queries right at the spot. Further feedback and support is also available, easily, and all through the job hours.
If you are not interested in training an employee yourself or you lack time, there can always be another skilled person in an organization who will take up this job. An enthusiastic or seasoned and trustworthy employee can provide state of the art training to the new employee. It will also add to the experience of this old employee and they will also get a chance to learn.
On the job training will build the confidence of the new employee. As soon as they acquire a skill set they will feel confident about themselves. They will feel productive and worth. It will build their self-esteem. This will also help them realize quickly if they are on the right kind of job, if they can continue or do they have an aptitude of this type. This will reveal their worth to you and also will clear their future in this type of job.
