Treatment of dry skin


Dry skin is a sign of premature ageing. It is needless to say that dry skin requires utmost attention. Dry skin not only causes discomfort due to tightness but also develops flaky skin with time and looks harsh and rough. Dry skin makes the skin look dull, lifeless and feels tight especially around the eyes and cheeks. Overtime there can be development of fine lines on these areas and at the corners of the lips. Harsh wind blows, dry weather can cause the skin to become dry and as a result cause flaky and dehydrated skin.
A low level of sebum is the major cause of dry skin. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous gland which is responsible for preventing the skin to become dry. Dry skin is unable to retain moisture and as a result of this appears patchy. Dry skin is characterized by tightness after one washes face with a cleanser. People with dry skin should be extra careful while selecting products for their skin.
Dry skin requires plenty but gentle cleansing using scrubbers, regular stimulation with massage. Always make sure you use only those products that are only meant for dry skin. Products that are non detergent based and have a neutral pH are best suitable for your skin. The first tip towards care for dry skin is that provide your skin with all the nourishment that it requires. Use oils and moisturizers generously. A moisturizer increases the moisture content of the external layers of the skin and gives it a soft supple look.
People with dry skin should avoid using tap water for washing face. Only mineral water is advisable. Also avoid using luke warm water for rinsing face. Dry skin can be treated with milk bath at least 2 -3 times a week. Make use of whole fat milk for milk bath. Milk aids in increasing the moisture level of the skin leaving it baby soft.
Make a habit of applying face mask prepared at home every morning 15 minutes before taking a bath. Honey, olive oil, bananas, orange juice, egg yolk are the ingredients that would make wonders to your dry skin. Prepare a mask from these ingredients and make your skin baby soft. Also make sure you moisturize your skin generously before you go off to bed at night. Apply generously a strong moisturizer before going out; so that the weather cannot harm your skin and make it look dull any longer.
Herbs have proved to work best for treating dry skin. Aloe Vera, calendula and comfrey make dry skin soft and soothes irritated skin. A drop of tree tea oil to your moisturizers or massage oil can do wonders to your skin. Dry skin can also be treated by drinking tea prepared from chamomile, dandelion or peppermint.
