You need to know about the different types of plants, their growth and how to maintain them. You could also decide on whether you want flowering or flowerless plants or vegetable plants.

There are many different types of gardening based on the styles, techniques, locations and types of plants. The common types of gardening include container gardening, water gardening, raised bed gardening, indoor gardening, rock gardening, greenhouse gardening, bonsai gardening and formal gardening. Container gardening gives gardener the flexibility of moving the plants around. Plants can be contained in all sorts of vessels and it can be moved indoors during cold season. Water garden consists of a pool with aquatic plants including fish or other water creatures. You can also fix rocks, fountains and waterfalls along with it to add beauty to the landscaping.

Raised bed gardens are similar to container gardens but on a larger scale. They are free standing structures made of stone, wood or concrete. They have good drainage and require less maintenance than traditional gardens. Indoor gardens bring the beauty of nature inside your home. They also improve the quality of air as a part of photosynthesis. The plants can be kept in containers and they require fewer amounts of sunlight and water.

Rock gardens use rocks or stones extensively along with plants native to rocky surroundings. Rock garden plants are usually smaller in size and so they do not cover up rocks. Greenhouse garden is a structure made of glass or plastic walls and roof. It uses sun’s radiation to heat up the soil and the plants. This method is very effective for growing plants indoors in winter. Bonsai gardening is the art of miniaturization of trees by growing them in containers. It uses techniques for shaping, watering and repotting in various containers. Formal gardens are one of the most beautiful and unique types of gardens. It is a neatly laid out garden with planned geometric and symmetric lines. The plants and the shrubs are neatly trimmed, shaped and arranged carefully.

Having a garden at your home has many physical and mental benefits too. The physical benefits include fresh, good quality air and exercise. It is a relaxing and peaceful place to be in when we need to take some time away from this busy and fast paced world.
