Team Building: What Does It Take?


People working in an organization are like a family. If they don’t know each other well, they may find it difficult to work together and get along each other. This costs efficiency and productivity of the organization. Teamwork and cooperation can be developed in the employees of a certain organization through team building. The team building process actually refers to a wide range of activities designed for improving team performance.
Team building improves efficiency in the workplace as it helps employees to work together as a team. Team building offers the opportunities to know people, to be kind and polite to them. People from different cultures often do not get along well especially during pressure situations, so team building offers them a fun and easy way to interact and understand each other. When people will be happy working in a friendly environment, the organization’s turnover rate will drop, hence, save time for replacement.
It requires organization, effort and kill to build a team that meet the needs of everyone, from the organization heads to the employees. This factor appreciates the basic truth that everyone is different and has different requirements. The cardinal points of team building must be followed to make an effective and productive team.
A team must have a common vision and shared objectives, to work together towards accomplishing them. It’s always wider to share goals, when working in a team, than divide them as it imparts on everyone to take part in decision making process and gives employees a sense of purpose. Decision making is an important stage and being involved in one gives people a sense of worth. It will also serve as platform for sharing ideas. A sense of accountability also develops as each and every person of the team has to work a part and a single person can make difference.
Diversity of skills and personalities is also a plus for success and can only be found in a team and not in a single person. A team comprises of different individuals, who have different skill sets which are often complementary, but they work towards a common goal. Different kinds of tasks need different head to do them. A plethora of idea coming from numerous workers of a team can help them choose the most efficient and desirable way to do a task.
Human beings always want to be listened to and feel worthy if someone wants to have their voice in a matter that directly or indirectly affects them. If this is cared for in team building, an efficient team can be made. People can share their thoughts, ideas and concerns without a restriction if they can openly communicate. Also, good communication will encourage the ideas to surface. In this way, greater ideas can surface, problems can be solved, chances of conflict are decreased and work can be done efficiently.
