Sreedharan Heads Kochi Metro Rail Project Phase 1

Sreedharan to Head Kochi Metro Rail Project 
Amidst a lot of controversies regarding the sanction of the kochi Metro Rail project to Delhi metro rail corporation, kerala chief minister Oomen Chandy has handed over the project to K. Sreedharan former head of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. 
Kerala had asked sreedharan to take over many other developmental projects like the high speed rail corridor and other construction works. 
Sredharan had claimed that he will be able to complete the Kochi Metro rail project in 3 years time. He has expertise in building the Delhi metro rail project on his side and is considered to be a pioneer in this field.
The Kochi metro rail project will be a joint venture between the kerala government and the central government.the project will get the cabinet approval from the last week of January and will start rolling soon.

The project will be completed in 3 phases 

Phase I



The Kochi Metro Rail Corporation in its first phase will cover a clear cut route from Aluva to Pettah covering around  25 km. The number of stations that has been decided are as follows. there will be 23 stations.:

  2. Pulinchodu
  3. Companypady
  4. Ambattukavu
  5. Muttom
  6. Apollo Tyres
  7. Jacobite Church
  8. Kalamassery
  9. Pathadipalam
  10. Edapally Junction
  11. Edapally Station
  12. Palarivattom
  13. Nehru Stadium
  14. Kaloor
  15. Lisie Hospital
  16. Madhava Pharmacy
  17. Maharajas College
  18. Ernakulam Junction South
  19. GCDA, Kadavanthra
  20. Elamkulam
  21. Vytilla
  22. Thaikoodam
  23. Pettah

Phase 2

The second phase of the kochi metro project will consider the possibility of adding the services to Ernakulam Boat Jetty via High Court Junction.the study is yet to be conducted and will begin only after the successful completion of phase 1 project.

Phase 3

This will be an extension from Aluva to the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.
All the phases will have proposed  route lengths of around 8 kilometres and the total cost estimated is above 5,000 crores.
