DAM 999 India's only hope in Oscar-Aadaminte Makan Abhu out of Oscar race
Sohan Roy's DAM999 has become India's only entry for an Oscar. Malayalam film which won the national award for the best film Aadaminte Makan Abhu has been ousted from the nominations for the best foreign feature film.The film was India's only official entry in that category.

The film featured the Kerala actor Salim Kumar in a breathtaking performance which won him the national award for the best actor. The film was directed by Salim Ahamed.The film went on to win a total of 4 national awards in the national film awards
Out of the 63 films screened by the Oscar committee only 8-9 films were retained by them. The retained films were
- Bullhead (Belgium)
- Monsieur Lazhar (Canada)
- Superclásico (Denmark)
- Pina (Germany)
- Footnote (Israel)
- Omar Killed Me (Morocco)
- In Darkness (Poland)
- Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale (Taiwan)
After a further review the number of films will be reduced to 5 by the Oscar committee.
Now India's only hopes remains in the film Dam 999 which has been nominated in the best film category. Further 3 songs of the movie too are in contention for the best song category.
Final nominations will be announced on January 24 2012
The Oscar ceremony will be held on February 26 2012
