Spanish Masala Movie Review
Shine Kerala review rating = 8/10
Spanish Masala the new Dileep movie which has been released on January 20 2012 is a must watch. The movie is entirely shot in the outskirts of Spain. The movie is a refreshing change from the same old locations we used to see in the films and is a treat for any avid movie goer.
The cast includes veteran Malayalam actors like Dileep, Kunchacko Boban,Biju Menon and also some European actors. The heroine of the movie is Daniela Zacherie who is an Austrian actress. She plays the role of Camilla who is the daughter of the former Spanish ambassador to India. Kunchacko Boban plays her love interest Rahul and dileep as charlie comes into the story line.
The film is narrated from the view point of charlie who visits Spain as a part of troupe. In search of better prospects in life he vanishes away from the troupe in Spain. Without any knowledge of the alien language spoken in the country, Dileep finds it hard to survive. It is then his skills as the cook comes to the fore and he excels in it. [ story line on this part reminded me of the film "Ramji Londonwale" played by Madhavan]. The sequences during this part of the film is entirely comical and a wonderful escape from the slap stick treatment of Suraj.
The story then turns into the life of Camilla and Rahul. Camilla was brought up in India right from her childhood and have a strong bond with the cultural aspects of India. It is in this scenario that Dileep enters into the main story line and the film in the second half turns sentimental.
Dileep as charlie is apt and no better actor can portray this character to perfection. Kunchacko Boban gets the full credit for the character he portrays. Biju Menon has been a revelation ever since seniors got released. He continues his good form in this movie too. The foreign actors seemed quite professional.
One thing that has to mentioned more is the willingness of Lal Jose to take the risk in shooting such a film in such different circumstances. Producer of the film does not disappoint us.
Noushad too deserves the credit for spending his money in shooting the film entirely outside India . Lal jose excels in his direction and displays the class inside him that makes everyone call him a director with a difference.
Music of the movie by Vidyasagar is moderately good. Though there was room for improvement in terms of music, Vidyasadgar
Script by Benny p Nayarambalam is typical of his style with intruding comedies in the first half and which turns quite serious in the second half. It is this typical skill of Benny that draws audiences to the films scripted by him. Well done Benny well done.
The film also showcases what has never been done in Malayalam cinema. The film shows the La Tomatina festival , Bullfighting and the Flamenco dance.I felt that Lal Jose had gotten that inspiration from the hit Hindi movie "Zindagi na milegi dobara". But the cinematography in those scenes was good without losing the pace of the film at any instant.

Overall a movie that should not be missed. Highly recommended.Worth watching than the other language films we are used to watching these days. Watch it for Dileep , Kunchacko Boban and Lal Jose.
