Jarawa tribes who live in seclusion in Andaman and Nicobar islands have been forced to dance in front of the tourists in return for food. A video has now emerged which clearly shows how minority tribes in India are being exploited by the modern people.
The video shows semi naked women forced to do dance to satisfy the tourists visiting the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Indian home ministry has taken up the issue seriously and had asked the Andaman police to investigate into the matter.
But reports claim that Andaman police have down-casted the issue as being an old one and that the video is quite old. This raises questions that if Andaman police knew about the issue than why they did not take any serious action against it. Police have told the media that the Videographer who videoed the incident is solely responsible for the issue and the media is creating unnecessary problems.
Jarawa are the adivasi tribe in India which have an estimated head count of around 400. the y live incomplete seclusion from the modern world . But the tourism in Andaman had devastated the situation. the jarawa tribe were being coerced into doing certain things . They were being videos and photographed and the situation there only went from being weird to worse.
It was then that Indian government stepped into the issue and issued fresh warnings to the tourist operators. Under Protection of Aboriginal Tribes Regulation, 1956 attempting any form of contact with Jarawas, photographing any of them, stopping vehicles while transiting through their land or offering them rides were prohibited. Any one found to be violating the rules can be prosecuted under this law.
But it seems like Andaman police had been just a name sake and had been partial to the tour operators which bring tourists in packs to the island promising unforgettable and rare experiences.
It is high time India wake up to this issue and protect those people who do not understand our world. We will never understand theirs too. Leave them alone and let them live in peace.
