Fashion shows started in the most fashionable city in the world Paris. Fashion designers presented their collections on a fashion parades in the 1800’s. The fashion shows were adopted in America by the big department stores in the 1900’s. Today fashion shows are organised virtually everywhere. From Paris, Milan to Dubai and Hong Kong. Fashion shows today do not recognise boundaries and limits, and usually are as extravagant and weird as the designers that stand behind the presented collection.
Many designers and fashion brands hold an annual or seasonal fashion show to present their new collections.
The fashion industry today is very large business world wide, which annually brings millions of dollars and for some designers the annual salary is more than sixty thousand dollars. The fashion show industry is in a continual search for young and beautiful models that have to fit the high standards, in turn to start walking on the catwalks on fashion shows. The world of fashion is often full of controversy connected both to the life style of the models as well as designers. Recently the standards that one girl has to posses to become a model were widely questioned.
Namely to become a model and being able to show up on fashion shows girls have to meet criteria regarding weight, height, attitude and complete appearance. Weight has become the oppression for many models especially girls. These models following their desire to become a part of the fashion shows put them selves on rigorous diets, which quite often jeopardise their health as well as their life. After a long debate among the public and many discussions in the media these standards regarding the weight of the models, had to be changed in order to keep the health of the young girls working in this business.
Children are also part of this industry and fashion shows. Many fashion brands are specialized only for kids, while other brands apart from designing clothes and accessories for adults also produce fashion series for kids. Children models are often seen on the fashion shows, and becoming a model is the desire of many youngsters since their childhood. Many times children follow their parent’s desires and have to succumb under their pressure. Being part of the fashion shows in not so glossy as it looks on the television or in the shiny magazines. Many times the models have to stay for hours on rehearsals, and put up with the eccentric characters and bizarre tempers and wishes of the fashion designers. But lets not asperse the fashion shows and models profession, because all professions have its own good and bad sides, and each person need to tend towards a balanced life in order to enjoy and benefit the most from his/hers livelihood.
