Living In High Rise Buildings

High rise buildings became available after implementation of the elevator, the discovery of new stronger materials and building techniques that support extreme weight. The first high dwellings were build in antic times since the Roman Empire, but the new modern high rise building trend started in the 1950’s. After the Second World War was over many countries were facing huge problem with providing homes for the people, because many of the old residential homes were only ruins. The high rise buildings were the answer for a quick solution to provide homes for many people without roof above their heads.

The first high rise building was constructed in 1951 in Essex in the UK. These days that building is already second grade building as it became outshined by many other modern high rise buildings. Constructing high rise building blocks as homes for the masses in these post war times was very popular in the UK, European ex-communist countries, Germany and East Asia. Glasgow is probably the city that has the highest concentration of high rise building blocks in UK. But London is definitely the city with largest number of sky high rise buildings in the UK, a number that continues to grow.

Other countries like Russia, Canada as well as counties from East Asia also followed this trend of building high rise building residential blocks. Apart from residential the commercial high rise buildings are on the raise today. With an astonishing population of six billions, the Earth is becoming a crowded place to live. The prices of the land are growing sky high following the sky high rise buildings. Around the world in many mega cities the high rise buildings are reaching to the sky.

It seams like the counties are competing between themselves in building higher and higher towers. At one point in the history the Empire State Building was the first to have one hundred floors, after that the two towers of the World Trade Centres were holding the top place until the day of September 11th in 2001 when the structure was ruined in a terrorist attack. Other nations besides the American also joined the race of constructing high raise buildings and in 1998 Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia reached towards the sky and stayed on the top place of highest building in the world until 2004 when Taipei 101 was constructed in Taiwan.

After this a large number of architectural achievements in constructing high rise buildings were noticed in the Middle East where in Dubai the tallest man constructed high rise building Burj Khalifa touched the sky with it’s amazing 828 meter height. Building high rise buildings is also another way of showing the humans desire to reach further and further towards the universe and discover its vastness.
