Contact Lenses – Fashion Or Need

Contact lenses are therapeutically, corrective or cosmetic lenses that people put in their eyes mostly for better sight. Believe it or not but the inventor of the contact lenses was the magnificent scientist and artist Leonardo Da Vinci, but it took another tree hundred years for the scientists to develop his ideas and sketches and invent the soft contact lenses that people are wearing today. People choose to wear contact lenses from various different reasons.

Some people choose to wear contact lenses because they look better rather than with glasses, for others is because they are more practical than glasses, meaning they don’t get steamed up or get affected by the rain and also they provide a wider vision field. Some people wear contact lenses because it is easier to do sports while wearing contact lenses. There are eye conditions like keratokunus, aniseikonia, myopia, hyperopia and other common eye conditions that can be successfully treated by wearing contact lenses.

Contact lenses are also perfect solutions for people who do not wish to go trough an eye surgery. Most of the people are able to wear contact lenses; however there are people who can not wear these small discs because of many eye infections, extra eye sensitivity and other reasons which make the contact lenses not suitable for their eyes. There are many different types of contact lenses: Hard contact lenses, daily soft contact lenses, extended wear contact lenses and disposable contact lenses. For example hard contact lenses are made from hard plastic and it is more difficult to put them in and take them out of the eye, but they can correct almost all vision problems and their durability is from five to ten years.

Daily soft contact lenses are made of soft plastic materials and offer great comfort and easiness to put them in and out, but they luck the ability to correct many sight problems and they last less than the hard contact lenses. Extended wear contact lenses are made of silicone hydrogen and they can be worn up to thirty days all the time without the need to be taken out. The problem with this type of contact lenses is that they can cause and eye infection. Disposable contact lenses can be intended to wear them for one day or for up to three months. Daily wear disposable contact lenses are not taken out and cleaned, but after wearing them for one day you just simply throw them away.
