The birth place of Thunchan Ramanujan Ezhuthchan, the founder of Malayalam, [Thunchan Parambu] is in Tirur. Tirur is a witness for 'wagon tragedy' , 1921 rebellion as the British police carried 70 revolutionists in a fully closed airtight train wagon to pothannur in 1921 and thus killed more than 50 peoples by asphyxation. The wagons were returned with the dead bodies to Tirur. These bodies were laid to rest in Khabristan of the mosque nearby Tirur. Tirur Municipality has built a Tirur town hall in memory of the Wagon Tragedy.In Tirur town hall , a real size train wagon built right next to the building.
