A laptop is a good investment either you are a student or intend to use for any other purpose because it increases the efficiency of your work. You may be too careful to protect your investment but accidents do happen. Sometimes it may be due to your carelessness or unintended, no matter the reason you shouldn’t panic or think your laptop is completely damaged when it falls in water because you can rescue it and still achieve the same functionality you achieved from it. To rescue a wet laptop, just follow the steps below:
Turn it off. Turn it off by unplugging the power connection and power button to prevent short circuit since electricity and water don’t go well. If there are any devices like mouse, printer, drives and battery they should also be removed.
Drain the liquid. To remove the liquid turn the laptop over or shake it a little bit, use a lint-free cloth to wipe the liquid and remember to access all the nooks to wipe and drain any liquid that came into contact with the laptop.
Dry the laptop. Dry the laptop by airing it on the sun for at least a day or more than a day if it came into contact with a lot of water. Don’t try to blow dry it in an attempt to speed up the drying process as this will heat the laptop and attract dust to its vital parts. Also during drying don’t attempt to turn it on.
Open the laptop. This is only for individuals with skill or knowledgeable in computer architecture and organization to expose the internal parts and dry them. Use a lint free cloth to dry the liquid, also you can use a fan to dry the water but cautiously because if it’s very near to the laptop it may heat it up. If you are not knowledgeable you may seek assistance in doing this.
Rinse the laptop. Remove all residues caused by liquids like soda, coffee or any other liquids and rinse the laptop appropriately as the residue have ingredients that may have a corrosive effect to some laptop parts. Rinse the parts using deionized water for soluble liquids while use denatured alcohol for oily substances.
Reassemble your machine. After ensuring that all parts are dry, assemble all parts again in their right places and then run some tests to see if it’s functioning properly. For instance turn it on, open some drives, play some music in an attempt to find any flaws.
If all these attempts don’t provide successful results consult a technician, but remember you can always save some money by trying to rescue your laptop yourself first.
