KERALA-GOD'S OWN COUNTRY
Kerala is located on the South of India.It is one of the most exciting tourist destinations in Asia.Kerala is known as ‘God’s Own Country’ because of it's natural beauty given by god. By the details given by National Geographic Traveller,Kerala is one of the 50 destinations to be visited in your lifetime and one of the thirteen paradises in the world.HISTORY
As it’s name suggests Kerala is the land of cocunuts.’Kera’ means cocunut in malayalam[language in Kerala]. History says that,in 273-236 BC Ashokan had named this land as Keralaputra ( means the land of the sons of Cheras) and the name originated.So much history is not known after Ashokan.But it is believed that so much of trading was done by these lands.The first Empire who took his position in Kerala was Chera,and he use Tamil as their language till seventh century.This will give you an idea about how much influense was there for Tamils in this land.This land had a huge trading history with various countries.The power of Chera ends with the entering of Cholas,, the rulers of Tamil Nadu.
After Cholas ,in 11th century,slowly the political power of the state went into Zamorin of Kozhikode[Calicut]. In 1496, Vasco da Gama find a route to India through sea.After this there started fights between Portuguese, British, and Dutch to get the political power of this land. But the locals fight back and finally got the power from the hands of Dutch.
For a small period of time in 18th century AD, Travancore, tried to get thel power of Kerala. Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan also tried to achieve this,but they were attacked by the British from the east and at last Travancore and Kochi became primary states under the British.
CLIMATE
The climate in Kerala is interesting.It is neither too hot nor too cold in Kerala in any season.The maximum temperature will come around 33 degree centigrade and the minimum temperature will not be less than 20 degree centigrade.In Kerala,monsoon starts from june and ends in september.Winder is from october to january…
LANGUAGE
Official language of Kerala is Malayalam. This language comes in the categoryof Dravidian languages . The language is simlliar to Tamil language.Tamil had a great donation in the early development of Malayalam.
