Wines are used to celebrate any achievement in special occasions, after meals or even just enjoying yourself while relaxing. They are a symbol of class and taste which comes with a price, good wines mature with age and the older the wine the better and most expensive.
Sometimes you can invite family and friends to your house just to taste your wine collections during a wine tasting party. They don’t have to be expensive wines all you need is creativity to give you friends and family a wine tasting party of their lives.
· Decide on the type of wine tasting party you want to throw. There are eight types of wine tasting parties that you can throw;
ü Vertical. This is the idea of you and your friends enjoying and appreciating the taste of wine as it ages by picking wine from one brand but from succeeding years. For example you can pick Drost-DyHof from South Africa but from succeeding years like 200, 2001 and 2002.
ü Horizontal. This is where you choose wine variant produced on the same year but from different wine makers. For example a cabernet from wine makers in the Napper Valley, Australia and Germany.
ü Old World versus New World. This is the sampling of wines from different countries. Old word wines come from countries like Portugal, France, Austria, Germany and Spain. New world wines come from countries like South Africa, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
ü Wine and Cheese Parings. Cheese varieties like blue cheese soften the palate hence preparing the way for wine appreciation.
ü Wine and Chocolate Parings. Any brand of wine and dark chocolates goes well together.
ü Priceless. This is keeping your friends in the dark on the price of each wine bottle served so as to get an honest opinion on each since if you include the price you can get a biased opinion the wine’s quality.
ü Top 5. This is where you choose top 5 red wine and top 5 white wine brands and compare their taste and smell.
· Have a guest list. This depends on the size of your house, wine you are willing to serve although the important thing is although the guests doesn’t have to be wine experts at least have some people with wine knowledge so as to have a good opinion on your wine quality.
· Design and send invitations. Design and send the invitations early stating that it’s a wine tasting party so that the guests should prepare themselves for the purpose.
· Have a good stock of wine. Buy and stock enough wine in a cool dry place that will be enough for the guests, in addition you can also stock some cheese and chocolates on the day of the party.
