Whether to have sex or not seems to be the toughest decision to make for teens especially when they become sexually active and want to be responsible to prevent unwanted pregnancies or contract sexually transmitted diseases.
Abstinence is the only method to prevent unintended pregnancies or contracting STD’s. This is choosing not to have sex, a person who chooses to practice abstinence chooses not to be sexually active.
It’s the simplest form of birth control because if two people don’t have sex there’s no sperm to fertilize an egg and there’s possibility of getting pregnant. You don’t have to be a virgin to practice abstinence, even a person who has been having sex can decide to stop to prevent unwanted pregnancies or STD’s.
Complete abstinence or avoiding all types of intimate genital contact is the only way to guarantee complete protection against STD’s. STD’s can be spread through oral-genital sex, anal sex or even intimate skin-to-skin contact without actual penetration as herpes and genital warts can be spread this way.
Not having sex may seem easy because it’s not doing anything, but peer pressure and the things see on TV and movies for them to make the decision of not having sex. Teens may decide to have sex to be accepted because everyone else is doing it.
