In the modern society, people are contracting many chronic diseases due to either stress, changes in the dietary pattern, changing lifestyle, etc. Staying fit and healthy has become crucial. People have become health conscious and look out for solutions to remain fit…… they have started dieting, take weight loosing pills, health supplements, etc to stay fit.
Physical exercise is a healthy way of loosing weight and staying fit. It has numerous beneficial effect on the human body. Physical exercise helps to maintain healthy bone density, improves muscle strength, enhances joint mobility, promotes physiological well-being, reduces surgical risks and also strengthens the immune system. Researchers have documented that exercise can also help reduce level of cortisol – the stress hormone. This stress hormone is also responsible for accumulation of fat in the abdominal region, making the weight loss difficult. The World Health Organization has documented that lack of physical exercise accounts for 17% of heart disease and diabetes and 10% of cancer.
Exercising regularly helps in preventing various chronic degenerative disorders, namely high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, insomnia and depression as well. Physical inactivity can result in development of coronary artery disease as well as result in mortality due to cardiovascular disease. Exercise alone can be a potential source for treating depression.
People carry many misconceptions about exercise. Some of them are, exercise causes sudden death. This is not at true, as exercise cannot result in sudden death. Another most common misconception is that the muscle tissue will get converted to fat once a person stops exercising.
Apart from all these, one must ensure good nutrition intake along with exercise. The diet should be rich in nutrients in order to aid the body in replacing the nutrients loss while exercising.
Today’s teens are leading a luxurious life and do not indulge in any kind of physical activity. It is unfortunate that they are almost unaware of the deadly effects of physical inactivity. They should be encouraged to make use of stairs instead of lifts. They should be discouraged to play computer games instead coaxed to go and play outdoors games. Ask them to walk down to the nearest grocery store instead of riding their vehicles for the same task. The teens should be told to enjoy evening walks with their friends rather a bike / car race.
The teens should be the target group as they are the generation next and should be told about the healthy effects of exercising.
So my readers out there…. Go ahead … exercise and lead a hale and hearty life.
