Egypt’s unrest

Egypt is North African country with Sinai Peninsula. It is one of the major countries of African continent.  Egypt is surrounded by Mediterranean Sea to the north and red sea to the east. Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and its monuments like the Giza pyramid, great phinx….etc.

The economy of Egypt is one of the most developed economies of Middle East. In 18 June 1953, Egypt  gained the status of being a ‘republic nation’ but it was under emergency law since 1981. Egypt has been ruled by Hosni Mubarak even now he is currently serving his 5th term in office (28 years). Mubarak is the leader of ruling party named as National Democratic Party (NDP). Ahmad shafik is the current prime minister of Egypt from 29 January 2011. The executive power of the country is divided among the president and prime minister.

  On January 2011, protest began with tens of thousands of people marching in Cairo against Mubarak, soon other part of Egypt also joined in the protest. These protest started within few weeks after Tunisian revolution. Egyptian protesters have focused on a number of political and economical issues such as lack of free election, corruption, free speech, state of emergency law, police brutality and many economical issues like high price of food products, high rate of unemployment and low wages etc.

                        The main demand of Egyptian protesters is the end of Mubarak regime and a new government which has interest in resolving the current issues of Egyptian people, prevail justice and respects rights of freedom. At least 105 deaths have been reported on 29 January 2011. Capital city Cairo has transformed into similar to a war zone. Frequent violent incidents have been reported in the city of Suez. Large restrain military troops have taken place of Egypt’s central security police. Mubarak had dissolved his government and because of increasing pressure he would not seek the re-election in September.
