A kiss can be defined as pressing one’s lips against another’s lip or any other body part to express ones love, friendship, respect, affection or even greetings. It is said that no-one really knows where kissing originated from but there have been at least three theories that try to explain its origin.
The first theory is said to be that of a mother passing pre-chewed food to her baby that later transformed into a kiss. The second theory about the origin of a kiss developed in Europe through the act of a girl accepting a pre-chewed wad of tobacco from a boys lip as a sigh of returning the boys love. The third theory that tries to explain the origin of a kiss is from a religious point of view. From this theory it is believed that the art of kissing originated when two people brought their mouths together as a sigh of spiritual union.
Today kissing has evolved from just the locking of lips to small pecks on the lips, cheeks, forehead or even the hand to the use of lips as well as tongue to show affection and passion to the other person.
There are various form of kissing and some include: the cheek kiss where one brushes their lips softly across the cheeks of another, the forehead kiss also known as the motherly kiss where one press the lips gently on the forehead of the other, the hot and cold kiss where one licks their partners lips just to make them warm and then blows on them to make them cold again. The French kiss is also another form of kiss which involves the use of tongues.
People engage in the art of kissing as a way of comforting, showing love and affection or even resolving fights but mostly people kiss because it simply feels good and gives a feeling of love.
