The pigment - Chlorophyll and its health benefits

The word ‘Chlorophyll’ is a combinations of Greek words – Chloro meaning green color and phyllon meaning leaf; together it means that chlorophyll is a green colored pigment. This pigment is found in plants, algae and cyanobacteria. This means that our plants are green in color due to the pigment ‘chlorophyll’. Any living thing that is green contains chlorophyll. The green color pigment is extremely important for the plants to carry out the process of photosynthesis – the process that enables the plants to derive energy from sunlight. Chlorophyll enables the plants to convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose in the presence of sunlight. It is during this process, that chlorophyll produces energy (food for plants) in the form of carbohydrates which is essential for the growth and development of the plants. Chlorophyll was first isolated in 1817 by Joseph Bienaimé Caventou and Pierre Joseph Pelletier.
Chlorophyll molecules are found embedded in the membranes of chloroplasts. The chloroplasts are the organelles found in plants where the process of photosynthesis takes place.
Now this was all about the function of chlorophyll in plants, but how many of us know that chlorophyll can be beneficial to human beings as well…
Chlorophyll can also be called a ‘wonder pigment’ as it has many properties that can eliminate many problems related to health. In humans chlorophyll help improves heart function, blood circulation, promotes proper functioning of vascular system, helps in removing the various heavy metals and chemical toxins from the liver and also aids in cleaning the intestines, uterus and lungs. It also acts as a natural breath freshener and body deodorizer. When we take in chlorophyll, the hemoglobin levels increase and due to this the blood circulation improves. It also enriches the blood with nutrients that help to build iron.
As mentioned before, anything that is green has chlorophyll – so all the green leafy vegetables have chlorophyll. These include alfalfa, broccoli, spinach, green peppers, turnip greens. Our body gets more chlorophyll when we consume the vegetables in the raw and fresh form.
Apart from the natural source, chlorophyll is also available in form of capsule, so go to your nearby medical store today and grab your bottle of chlorophyll supplement today!!!!! So go ahead either include chlorophyll the natural way in your diet or add though the capsules and live a healthy life the natural way…….
