Formal Dressing: Choosing Neckties

Dressing sense of a man plays a key role to make his personality or a better choice might make his personality even appealing. When talking about the dressing of a man, a focal point in formal dressing is always the necktie and no one can deny the importance of it. A well chosen necktie, i.e. the one that complies with the suit can add to the appeal of that suit, whereas, an improper necktie looks like an inept act and can result in a socially awkward situation.
Searching an ideal necktie for their suit might be a true annoyance for some people, but a nonpareil necktie will add an unparalleled touch to their overall dressing, therefore, a person must invest time and effort while choosing a necktie. Choosing a necktie is a pernickety job. The issues which need to be addressed while choosing a necktie might also give one the knowledge of what is already in your cupboard and can be used. The issues include the choice of fabric, pattern or solid, size, and color of the necktie.
Always opt for silk or silk mix blend for neckties. It gives a softer, smoother and finer finish to a necktie. Silk neckties are highly recommended to be worn as a part of formal dressing. If a necktie is claimed as a silk manufacture but is rough, then it is a second rate quality and not worthy for investment. Look for the lining of necktie you are going to buy. The lining must retain its form, after use of many times or wash, to give a nice overall look of to necktie.
There are some fundamental must have colors that can do the job at most of the times. These colors include, navy-blue, burgundy, silver-grey stripe necktie. Dark red or dark blue neckties can go with a variety of shirts. Neckties can rock when used to contrast the color of the shirt. A light colored shirt and a dark necktie, and vice versa, often makes a good pair.
Pattern is another important issue. Generally, stripes and solid colors are the universal patterns that can never go wrong but you must not wear a striped necktie with a striped shirt. A solid necktie goes with striped shirt and vice versa. Self-printed ties also look very decent and professional if the print is not very flowery. Dotted ties go well with both solid and striped shirts.
When you go to buy a necktie, always try it to see if it fastens a fine knot that fits the collar and is an adequate length that is in contact with the waist of your trouser. Scan the necktie for any defects; loose threads, stains, or the weaving is poor. It is always a good idea to either wear the suit or shirt you want to match the necktie with or take it along with you.
For a thumb rule, one must avoid using extremely showy, daring and ‘humorous’ designs. If you are a professional or you are going to a formal invitation than you must not wear a necktie with a cartoon character or a very artsy pattern. It might repel people from taking you seriously. A serious situation requires a necktie that is more conservative in both its design and color.
