iPhone Confession App

Confession is a Roman Catholic app, helps Catholic through confession. Confession is aimed at encouraging lapsed followers of religion back to the faith. Confession is thought to be the first app of this kind that is approved by a church authority. The three-man company, Little iApps, describes the program behind Confession as a “personalized examination of conscience for each user”. The company also expresses their desire of using digital technology to invite the Catholics to engage in their faith.
The company claims Confession is not designed with an aim of replacing going to a confession in real life but it is just to help Catholics through the act of confession. There are claims of Confession helping a man in returning to the sacrament after a span as long as 20 years.
Confession asks the penitents to list the sins they have committed. The app, Confession, first registers the name, sex, and relationship state of a penitent. Next, a penitent is asked to choose a confession password. The profiles are customized and password protected. It also offers a step-by-step guide to the sacrament.
When clicked on the app icon, it opens with: “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” A penitent can add or remove his “custom sins” such as gluttony, envy or greed. There is a series of check-boxes, which allow the penitent to choose the sin they are guilty of. Confession also offers are blank page where a penitent can make an inventory of crimes less serious than felony. Confession has an "examination" button.  It offers a penitent to examine his conscience and contemplate on the basis of Ten Commandments and Seven Deadly Sins.
The app offers a built-in notepad for taking down notes that you need to discuss with the Priest during confession. It has a prayers list that contains Acts of Contrition as well as traditional prayers such as the Hail Mary and Glory Be. After a penitent is done with the confession, the app can be closed by clicking the “finish” button. The app finishes at a spiritual quotation from a Catholic saint.
The content of Confession is developed with the help of Pastor of Queen of Peace Catholic Chruch in Mishawaka, Indiana and a member of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Little iApps claims the app has been officially authorized for Catholic use by Bishop of Diocese of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Confession has been approved by the senior church officials in Britain also and it can be used by both the Catholics and non-Catholics. Pope Benedict XVI also asked the younger generation to make good use of their presence in digital world.
