It has been mentioned that the already trim 29-year old is on a strict diet to slim down even further. Is she too focused on her weight or are the British Royals, in general, obsessed with thinness?
Kate doesn't look heavy to me. How about you? Unfortunately, there is an undercurrent of weight loss among the female members of the British Royals. One example is Princess Beatrice of York; she it is rumored that she lost over 20 pounds while banding together with friends training for a marathon. Another example is the infamous Dutchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. She was even called names such as 'Dutchess of Pork."
I wonder, is it conceivable that a rivalry between the Duchess of York and the Princess of Wales may have been part of the problem. Of course, Princess Diana was the darling of the British, but she also faced embarrassment in the media over her less than trim look. As a result, the late Diana resorted to bulimia to tackle her weight problem.
Not only is Kate dieting, but her mother, Carole Middleton is following the same diet--the "Dukan Diet," which was invented by a French nutritionist. The Dukan Diet is 100 percent protein and zero percent carbs. Does that remind you of another popular diet?
It is interesting to realize that for the most part, wedding invitations are being faxed. According to the British, they are an efficient and polite way to inform people as quickly as possible. It has been rumored that approximately 300 people will be invited to the big event.
So, who are some who will be on the list for the event of the year? No one is quite sure who will be invited, but the 1997 funeral of William's mother Princess Diana, which was attended by many charity workers, may be used as a model. That means campaigners for causes like homelessness, children's welfare and cancer awareness could be invited to William and Kate's royal wedding.
The involvement of people outside their immediate family and friends in the Westminster Abbey service marks a desire by the couple to inspire a national day of celebration. There is even talk of a pop concert and big screens being erected for people to watch the event in open spaces.
Oddly enough, Sarah Ferguson is on the coveted list. Sir Elton John, a close friend of Princess Diana, may also be invited; however, that has not been confirmed. President Barak Obama and first lady Michelle Obama may also not be invited. Why? Prince William and Kate Middleton are not required to invite heads of state. The couple want to make their wedding about people, so several "commoners" will be invited--those with ties to charities the royal couple supports.
