Amazon – the history of the biggest online magazine

The father of Amazon is Jeffrey Bezos, born in 1964 in New Mexico. He spent his childhood in Houston. Even during his childhood Jeff was interested in technology. When he finished school he went to Princeton University in 1982. He graduated in 1986 with specialty electronics and computer science. Bezos started work in Fitel where he built a computer network for financial trading. Then he moved to Bankers trust and become the youngest vice-president of the company. Then he went to DE Shaw & Co. This company interviewed him on the recommendation of one of his associates, who believed that “he will make a lot of money someday”. One day sitting in front of his computer, Bezos faced a surprising fact. According the information which he read, the web was growing at a rate of 2300% per year. He realized that this is one great opportunity, that online trading is a natural next step in the Internet development. Combining the knowledge of Wall Street and computers, he possessed the perfect qualities to deal with the realization if this idea. Bezos made a list of 20 goods that were suitable for selling online. It had items like CDs, magazines, software, hardware and books. . The short list was quickly reduced to two main products - books and music. Eventually, he stopped to the books perhaps under the influence of his wife, who was a writer. He moved with his family in Seattle. With the absence of taxes, the abundance of IT talents and the presence of one of the largest booksellers – Ingram, Seattle looked like the perfect place for starting a new business. In his garage of the rented house, Bezos and his first three employees installed the computers and started to write software for the bold initiative. Initially, he thought to call the company Cadabra - as magical word. Fortunately, his friends persuaded him that, along with his magical sound that resembles a word "cadaver" (in English "Corpse"). So Bezos’s company called Amazon the name of one of the largest rivers in the world. According to the company's website, it opens their virtual doors in July 1995 with a mission to use the Internet to make purchases of books in the fast, easy and fun shopping. At 1999 Amazon.com Inc. has a market capitalization of the impressive US $ 6 billion - more than Barnes & Noble and Border, the largest of its offline competitors combined.
What Bezos created, in the end is nothing more than a virtual bookstore. But Amazon has not received all the praise without reason. Bezos is the biggest dot.com icon. He proved to the world that the Internet is much more than a tool for dissemination and exchange of knowledge, it is possible to overcome fears of online shopping, to reduce transaction costs and that has meaning and purpose in the development of international e-business Internet. Bezos is one of the great pioneers of e-business. He has the courage to tackle something that others did not think possible. Amazon is firmly took its place as a leading force in electronic commerce and with the addition of more products and strategic partnerships it has become a virtual marketplace.
