Travel to Rome for a week

Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is the capital and the largest city in Italy. In historic and culturally Rome is one of the most important global cities. Although there are many built attractions such as Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps, the glory of the city comes from the magnificent museums and art galleries. To feel the real spirit of this ancient and in the same time modern city you need more than one life but if you travel to Rome and you have only a week this is a list with 5 places which you must see.

 The Pantheon

The Pantheon is the best preserved ancient building in Rome which dates from 120 BC. The original building is even older, but was demolished and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian. Outside you will see 16 columns, which are made in Egypt and transport to Rome. By the Renaissance was the largest dome in the world and served as a prototype for the dome of St.Peter by Michelangelo. Inside the dome there is a large hole which is the only source of light in the building. The floor plan is preserved from Roman times and much of the interior has been preserved with exception of the statues of Catholic saints, the Tomb of Raphael and 2 graves of Italian kings.

The Vatican, the Sistine Chapel
Vatican City is situated in the center of Rome, on the west bank of the Tiber River and is fully independent sovereign state. To visit it you don’t need to show a passport but will have to go through X-ray scanners and large tails. If we leave aside the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican museums are some of the most important and beautiful in the world, which give you the opportunity to travel back to the Ancient times. When you are in Vatican you must visit the Roman and Etruscan collections, the rooms painted by Raphael and of course the Sistine Chapel. The view from the top of the dome, 130m above the basilica is amazing. The entrance to the stairs and the elevators is on the right side of St.Peter.

The Square St.Peter
The square St. Peter was designed by Bernini in 1650 and is incredibly huge. Piazza is surrounded by 284 gigantic columns situated in four rows. All this is absolutely impressive and you really should visit and see it! The original church on this site was built by Emperior Constantine as a tomb for the worship of St.Peter. In the center of the square is Egyptian obelisk, the rise of which is thought to have been 900 people needed!

The Basilica of St. Peter
The Basilica of St.Peter is beautiful and definitely can not be describe with words so you definitely must not miss it when you travel to Rome even for a few days! The culmination of the interior is the huge canopy over the altar, above shines, lit by the sunlight of a window, a dove. The Dome of Michelangelo is 119 meters high and can be reaching by stairs or elevator.

It doesn’t matter if you travel to Rome for firs time or not, the time is never enough to see and feel everything!
