The Little Prince

The Little Prince, translated into more than 190 languages and sold more than 200 million copies, is originally a French novella. The novella is adventurous novel as well as deeply emotional from the very beginning to the end. The story holds deep love and innocence in itself, at the same time.
A pilot has crashed his plane in the Sahara Desert and there he meets a strange Little Prince, who has fallen into the Earth from an Asteroid B-612. The Little Prince seems lonely and he was in need of a friend, so the pilot befriends him and the friendship is going to last forever. They set off on a journey together that is going to take them across different planets.
The Little Prince first asks the pilot to draw him a sheep. The pilot speculates about his childhood dream to become an artist and being advised and forced to take another career path. It was the intriguing character of Little Prince that made the pilot grow curious and he offers a hand of friendship to Little Prince. Pilot asks the Little Prince to share his story and the Little Prince tells him about his tiny planet and the three volcanoes. He tells about the loveliest flower that grew on his planet and how he devoted his love to that flower. In return he was anguished by the pride and vanity of that flower, eventually leaving his planet for good.
The Little Prince laughs at the foundation of modern era. He thinks power, wealth and fame lead to despair. They don’t give hope, which is said to be the basis of life, rather kill all the hope and the habitants of modern era don’t even realize this. As the reader flips the pages the story grows more and more interesting.
The Little Prince offers little nuggets of wisdom, through the words of a child, who sees everything which we adults cannot see because of our materialized thinking process. The novelette tells that adults cannot see things, which once they as children did. It also makes us think about the human ego of adults which makes them rigid, and denies them the pleasures of experiencing the freedom to learn and joy of life. As adults are often unable to understand children, in this matter adults too seem strange to children.
While reading this book you will be fascinated. It will make you ask yourself questions about life and acquaint you with the long forgotten construction of a child’s mind.
